P. V. Sindhu as showstopper for Shriya Som!
The use of the camouflage print has been controversial. It was initially worn exclusively by personnel of the armed forces as part of their uniform to avoid being spotted or observed by the enemy. The earthy tones of green, brown and beige blend into the surroundings of the war zones much like a chameleon. However, it didn’t take long for this print to trickle down into the fashion world and be worn by civilians as an item of style. This has not fared well with the Governments of certain countries since it becomes difficult to distinguish between military and non-military personnel. Some have gone ahead and outrightly banned the wearing and even possession of the camouflage by civilians including tourists and children. So if you are planning your vacation to countries such as Antigua, Barbados, Grenada, Jamaica, Nigeria, Oman, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, St Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, Zambia or Zimbabwe, make sure to not include any item of clothing with this print on it which packing or else you might face legal consequences.
Despite this, the print has taken the fashion world by a storm. Whether it’s Bollywood or Hollywood, the camouflage print shows no signs of going away. With all the rage surrounding street fashion, camo print has found immense popularity both at home and abroad. Several bollywood celebrities have donned this style both casually and formally. Talking about casual wear, the camo print seems to be a celebrity favorite for the airport look. It does make for a perfect travel outfit. Akshay Kumar was spotted sporting camo overalls while coming out of the air port. Sonakshi Sinha was also found in camouflage cargo pants at the airport. Siddharth Malhotra has donned the classic camo cargo pants on two separate occasions.
It’s not just men who wear this print usually associated with soldiers; even women have incorporated the look in their outfit. From jackets, overalls, and jumpsuits, to caps, or shoes, the presence of this print can be found in a wide variety of clothes. It allows for a lot of scope to experiment with it. Bipasha Basu, who is known for her sporty look, wore the print on a shirt dress and made a strong case for wearing camo. Who says you can wear camo with a dress? Take inspiration from Raveen Tandon who turned her simple little black dress into a chic street look by adding a simple bomber jacket to it. You cannot go wrong with camouflage and black. The camo print can now be found in a wide variety of colors including pinks and red, apart from the classic military olive green (because less face it, we don’t really have to camouflage ourselves in a city). The print screams adventure and exudes a sporty and active look. This rugged print can add a bold statement to any outfit. Brands like BAPE have made this print their signature and have produced iconic products like the shark hoodies. BAPE has even collaborated with shoe brands like adidas to give a camo flavor to their footwear.
Wear this print with a pair of chunky shoes for the perfect athe-leisure style. The transparent drench coat is another emerging trend which has been spotted at several fashion shows and donned by celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The transparent drench coat can also been purchased in a camo print and put you at the top of the fashion game.
