Winter is done and Spring is calling. We are done with the harsh cold, the layers of sweaters and bowls of hot soup. It’s now time to put on those shorts and toss those fuzzy socks. So, let’s celebrate spring in style this year! With spring cleaning commencing in most families, it’s time to give our home decor a seasonal twist and go green!
How about we let go of all those mundane artifacts, paintings and flowers this season and instead go green? Let the foliage cover up your house as the sunlight floods in. It’s the perfect time to let that little sapling grow! And I promise, this is going to be mess free! So let’s discuss how and where to place indoor plants to make the little nooks and corners of our house green.
1. The green frame
We all have seen paintings of flowers, leaves and all sorts of natural ideas, painted and framed. This is an age old tradition seen across the globe for centuries. But have you ever seen a green frame? No, I am not talking about a green painting, instead about framed foliage. And trust me it looks splendid. We see foliage that grows vertically, so just frame a wooden box around it and you are good to go. If you are concerned about watering them, use plants that don’t need a lot of water.
2. Book the green
Do you have a bookshelf? A display rack? How about adding a little green touch there too? How about just a potted plant with a cactus? Yes, that’s all you need, to add that dash of freshness to your bookshelf, and trust us, you would want to start reading right away!
3. The green bed
Bedrooms are usually done in free earthy colours or subtle tones of beige, peach and whites. They are usually lack lustre and boring. Spice up the bedroom and recreate the magic with green love. Pot a no maintenance plant on your bed stand and inhale the freshness all day long! Flowers wilt. But green? Green is forever! So ditch the flowers and go green!
4. Plate it up
Who said green is only for gardens? As you eat up your greens cooked in all sorts of spices, keep a view of fresh, lustrous and joyful green on your dining tables. These greens accentuate the dining table like nothing else can. A simple small plant in a portable mini vase is all you need. And when you have a party, just shift it to the serving shelf and that’s all the decoration you will need to make the guests feel at home.
5. Green kitchen
Green kitchen is not a new concept, as people have been growing their own spices for a long time. Today however, we say, other than just spices, go for decorative plants to do up your kitchen in a little green. Not only will it add colour, but also serve as an air purifier as the leaves will take in the carbon dioxide created in the kitchen and leave you with fresh oxygen! When they say cooking is therapy, why not go green to get refreshed?
6. Green wall
According to us designers, a green wall is a must. Not only does it highlight the space, but adds a sense of rejuvenation to the area leading to a simpler, yet prettier place! Here though we are talking about a true green wall. It can be a few potted plants stacked together, a green partition or simply a wire plantation.
7. Shower the green
We told you about greens in all parts of your home, so how can we leave out the green bathrooms? Keep a small area for a green patch in the bathroom, and they will take away all the bad odour! Or try potting some aloevera and use it on yourself while showering!
For those of you allergic to pollens, we can still help you make your space green! How about green linen? This linen goes very well with whites and blacks, so dash it up. Or maybe a green wall paper in the bath is all that you need. Do let us know which one you think is more fun!
Green is essential and we often forget how much plants give us. So let’s make it our #2017goals to go green this spring. According to Feng Shui too, it brings in good fortune and fertility at home to place plants.
