My home, My style!
Today in ‘My Home Story’ we talk with Komal Goenka who dons various hats like being a creative educator, phonetics trainer, storyteller and her most favorite, being a mommy to her 4.5 year old son who is an inspiration for her to take her passion ahead. And to spend more quality time with her son, she left the gloomy corporate life behind and took up flexible working so as to balance the family and work life.
SOUL: Tell us something about your home?
KG: Home is the place where I completely unwind myself and simply adore every piece of it. We live in a 2 BHK apartment which we renovated a few months back. Beige, white, and shades of mustard give the perfect look to my living room and gels well with our wood work. The furniture of the house is very important and we carefully chose it keeping elegance in mind. The vibrant rajasthani cushion covers, beige curtains and hanging yellow lights give a soothing effect to our living room and make it the perfect place to relax after a tiring day.
Our kitchen, which we made open by breaking the wall from one side, enhances the look of the entire house and makes it look spacious. We chose a combination of subtle and bright color for the kitchen. I just love collecting lots of magnets and stick them on the fridge along with the happy family pictures which give a lot of positive vibes to me.
SOUL: Of all the places which one has your impression?
KG: My favorite place in the house is my son’s room as I have hanged many of his childhood pictures and school certificates in it. There are many puppets, animal theme curtains, book shelf, chotabheem table and walls painted in lemon and turquoise green, which actually is a memory of my childhood but he just loves it equally. After a tiring day we usually end our day with a storybook reading session in his room.
SOUL: Where else do you chill in your house?
KG: As I am a voracious reader I take out time for myself and usually cuddle up in the corner of the living room with a book, sipping my green tea under the yellow lights and a wall full of pictures of family and friends. We have in fact reduced our outings after the makeover of the house and prefer to call our friends and family to chill out at home.
Over the weekends we prefer to watch movies, experiment with new cuisine, play and spend quality time with our little one, or at times if we are in a particular creative mood we create something new out of waste like making a name plate out of a wine bottle. Experimenting in making new things out of wine bottles is something both my husband and I enjoy a lot. Apart from the name plate we have also made a pulses jar with the bottles for our cute kitchenette.
SOUL: Any other place in the house you would like to remodel?
KG: Yes there are so many changes you would like to make in your home and I wish I could have spent more money and would have loved to create my own space by converting my balcony to a reading area. But I do have it in my mind and have started to save for it as well, so anytime in future I am going to have my own exclusive reading corner.
