Who doesn’t love attending a wedding? The roaring excitement of enthusiastic guests, the play of lights, the tantalizing scent of flowers and the gleam of joy at spotting the blushing bride and groom are the streaks that make wedding an affair to remember! But decking up for a wedding is not a cake walk especially when you represent team bridesmaid.
It is true that the protagonists of a wedding are the bride and groom, but as a bridesmaid you are not much behind. Since you will hog the spotlight along with the bride it is important that you dress up appropriately and synchronize with the ambience. The most challenging task of the bridesmaid is to toe the balance – a little too much would mean you are aiming to steal the thunder of your bff, the bride, which is a big no-no and dressing down would mean that you are not interested enough and may end up on the wrong side! Hence, a bridesmaid needs to plan ahead and design her looks for each of the wedding events so that she can stand out and yet blend in.
To make your job a little simple I’d like to come to your rescue and suggest eight drop-dead gorgeous looks that would earn you the best-dressed bridesmaid fame:
LOOK 1: Bridal shower or bachelorette has become an indispensible aspect of weddings aj kal. Pick a flared mid-length skater dress either in the shades of lavender, honey or coral and marry it with tie-up tan flats so that you have happy feet till Cindrella hours! Dewy make-up and barely there jewellery would seal the deal. Chic, subtle and yet a diva!
LOOK 2: Say you have to attend a ‘haldi’ ceremony and you can’t decide what to wear then worry no more. Embrace the sunshine hue of yellow and pep it up with the silhouette. A bright yellow Kaalidar if you like to keep it traditional or a yellow maxi dress paired with a printed waist-coat in a different hue of yellow if you are game for a global twist to your outfit. Pink pout, stacks of tasseled baubles and trinkets, and embroidered jooti exudes the right amount of bridesmaid elegance!
LOOK 3: For the Mehendi ceremony ditch red for Barbie pink and welcome English rose printed lehenga teamed with raspberry pink choli. Don’t forget to customize the choli with drool worthy and unique latkans. Go for a statement pair of earrings and carry a silver bling pout lip clutch and revel the fun bridesmaid in you!
LOOK 4: For the Sangeet wear something that would let you breathe and move without any fuss. Mid-slit salwar with palazzos are really big this season, so you know what I am insinuating at! Otherwise the ever reliable half-saree in the combination of pink and parrot green is a classic bridesmaid choice. Glass bangles or bold conversational bracelets chose according to your taste.
LOOK 5: Now for the main event you can go generous with zardosi, buti work or brocade as all these are wedding appropriate. Saree or lehenga with a batuwa is the ideal choice but the final call is yours! Metallic platforms or mirror-work jootis will let your feet do all the talking in style!
LOOK 6: The reception is about the wrapping up of the wedding fiesta, so it is your last chance to make your mark like no other! A crop top with maxi skirt pronounces chic-sexy! To enhance the look vouch for layered pearl neckpiece, bold puckers, statement earrings and blow-dry voluminous hair and get ready to be flooded with compliments!
LOOK 7: We are indebted to Anamika Khanna for popularizing the dhoti-sari and bestowing us with such amazing range of options. So why not strut around and win brownie points with a dhoti saree, perfectly manicured nails and sky-high heels for any one of the wedding events?
LOOK 8: If you are one of those bridesmaids’ who would ditch bling any day for classic handlooms then this is it! Bright pink Upadda cotton coordinated with contrasting sunset orange or beige chanderi low-backline blouse, big bindi and a stunning jhumka or pearl-clustered hoop will turn heads and set new parameters for the sophisticated bridesmaid. P.S. Don’t forget to let your hair loose!
So my aspiring bridesmaid what are you waiting for? Shop, shop, shop away! Till then stay in style and don’t forget to wear your smile
